Auckland Zoo is reducing admission prices as it progresses the biggest and most exciting development in its 96-year history, a new South East Asia precinct that visitors can now see being created.
The move sees same day/walk-up adult ticket prices reduce from $28.50 to $24.
Children (4 – 14 years) are $13, and under 4s remain free. Booking in advance online for future visits offers further substantial savings for adults, children, seniors, and students.
The highly immersive $50M+ South East Asia precinct in the centre of the Zoo is part of a 10-Year Future Zoo renewals programme funded through Auckland Council’s long-term plan - and is by far the Zoo’s most ambitious project. It reflects the Zoo’s strong focus and support for South East Asian wildlife, and will feature some of this region’s most threatened and stunning species; orangutans, siamangs, tigers and otters, and within a tropical house - false gharial crocodiles and a diversity of other reptiles and fish. It will also include a new restaurant/function centre overlooking the Zoo’s central lake and this precinct.
“Our price changes acknowledge that while just two animals (orangutans & lemurs) have left the zoo as a result of the South East Asia construction, we appreciate that our visitors’ zoo experience can potentially be impacted,” says Auckland Zoo director, Kevin Buley.
“However, we’ve also never been a more exciting place to visit!
“As we continue to grow and evolve before our visitors’ eyes, we actually now have more animals and species for them to visit and learn about - and more are coming. We also have a team who are able to wander the zoo with the animals in their care and give visitors more up-close impromptu experiences. We take our role as kaitiaki of Auckland’s zoo seriously, and everything we are doing is to continue to make it better for our community – animals, staff and visitors - and our newer developments like our Australia precinct and African Savannah extension demonstrate this,” explains Kevin.
“This is the perfect time for everyone to take advantage of our price changes and join us on Auckland’s Future Zoo journey. There’s great vantage points to see the new South East Asia development take shape as you also enjoy the amazing opportunities we continue to offer to connect with wildlife and our passionate team.
Auckland Zoo is part of Regional Facilities Auckland, and is a not-for-profit conservation organisation whose entire focus is bringing people together to build a future for wildlife. It says comprehensive research recently undertaken shows that people remain extremely keen to visit the Zoo and would visit even more frequently at the right price-point. By lowering its prices and attracting more visits, the Zoo can achieve its revenue targets whilst building its new South East Asia precinct.
