Auckland Zoo terms and conditions

  1. 1. Visitors enter the Zoo at their own risk and choose to do so under these Terms and Conditions. No liability for loss, injury or damage will be accepted. 
  2. 2. Visitors must enter via a public entrance and pay the applicable entrance or membership fee. No tickets will be exchanged or substituted after purchase. No refunds will be given due to inclement weather, maintenance or construction work, animals not on view, or habitats closed.
  3. 3. Auckland Zoo has the authority to close the Zoo or any part thereof, including any animal habitat or keeper talk, remove animals from display for any reason and/or vary the advertised programs at any time for any reason whatsoever including in the interests of safety and will not be liable for any loss or expense incurred by a visitor as a result of such closure or variation.
  4. 4. Visitors must not enter any habitat, cross any barrier, or enter any area marked 'no entry' or 'staff only', unless accompanied by an Auckland Zoo staff member.
  5. 5. Children must be supervised at all times by a responsible adult aged 15 years or over. The Zoo reserves the right to report any unaccompanied children to the appropriate authorities.
  6. 6. Visitors must not bring into the Zoo any animal (excluding fully-vaccinated, pre-approved assistance dogs), costume (if deemed inappropriate by Auckland Zoo), balloons, balls, frisbees or other throwing or sporting devices, whistles, horns or other noisemakers, motorised vehicles, bicycles, rollerskates, rollerblades, skateboards, scooters or similar apparatus; alcohol or illegal substance. Toddlers' bicycles are permitted only if fitted with a rigid fixed handle and under the control of a responsible adult at all times. Auckland Zoo reserves the right to inspect any visitor’s bag(s) on request. Dogs must not be left in cars.
  7. 7. Visitors must not touch, disturb or interfere with any animal (including free-range birds); feed any animal; throw any object; allow any objects to fall into or enter habitats; climb on, damage or deface any structure or signage; light any fire; or litter. Remote controlled vehicles and devices, such as drones, are also prohibited. If you do allow an object to fall into an animal habitat, please do not attempt to retrieve it and notify a member of staff.
  8. 8. All visitors must wear attire appropriate for a community facility and, for safety reasons, appropriate footwear must be worn at all times. Clothing with objectionable, vulgar or offensive writing, images or imprints are not permitted. Auckland Zoo reserves the right to refuse entry to visitors wearing costumes or items of clothing that may, at Auckland Zoo's absolute discretion, be considered objectionable or have a negative impact on the Zoo’s animals or other visitors.
  9. 9. Visitors must not conduct any commercial or charity activity without the written consent of Auckland Zoo. Professional (including commercial) photography and filming, including all media and commercial organisations, is only permitted by prior arrangement with our Marketing and Communications department.
  10. 10. Auckland Zoo is smoke-free and smoking is not permitted in the Zoo grounds, this includes electronic cigarettes and vaping. During normal Zoo opening hours there is a designated smoking area outside the main Zoo entrance. Visitors who do not comply will be asked to leave or may be removed.
  11. 11. Visitors must comply with the car parking signs displayed in the car parking area. Failure to comply may result in your vehicle being towed at your risk and expense. Auckland Zoo accepts no liability for any claim by you or any other person, whether for loss or damage to your vehicle or any other vehicle, whether resulting from using the car park or from your own negligence or otherwise.
  12. 12. Visitors must comply with any other conditions or instructions displayed in Zoo grounds or communicated by Zoo personnel. 
  13. 13. The Zoo retains the right to deny access and/or remove visitors who fail to comply with these Terms and Conditions of Entry, are being a public nuisance, acting recklessly and/or failing to observe directions from Zoo personnel or any Zoo signage.
  14. 14. Visitors must adhere to the adult to children ratio below when visiting: 1 adult to 8 children (aged 0-14 years). Groups without adequate supervision ratios will not be permitted to enter the Zoo

Parking terms and conditions:

  1. Parking in the Zoo carpark is at your own risk. Please park responsibly.
  2. You must not obstruct any persons or vehicles using the carpark. You must not park in any area marked “Reserved” or “No Parking”, or in zones identified as “drop off” or “loading zones”. You must not park on the grass verges in and around the carpark. Any car parked in a mobility bay must display a current mobility pass.
  3. If you breach any of these parking terms & conditions, Auckland Zoo may, at its sole discretion and at the owners’ risk and expense: Enter the vehicle; tow the vehicle; or apply a wheel clamp to the vehicle. This carpark is an Auckland Council Alcohol Ban area that is enforced by the New Zealand Police. If your vehicle has been removed from this carpark, please contact Supercity Towing (0800 728 694) to determine your vehicles whereabouts and how best to retrieve it.

The decision to deny access and/or remove any visitor is at the absolute discretion of Auckland Zoo.

Auckland Zoo (“the Zoo”) is owned by Tātaki Auckland Unlimited (“TAU”).  All ticket holders to the Zoo are subject to the following terms and conditions and by acquiring one or more tickets to the Zoo (“Ticket” or “Tickets”) you confirm to TAU that you accept these terms and conditions of use.

Ticket holders are referred to in these Terms and Conditions as “Visitors”.

Please note: Transactions for tickets purchased online for Auckland Zoo will appear on your bank or credit card statement as ‘RFA Auckland Zoo'.  We cannot be held responsible for any additional charges applied by the bank or card issuer.  All tickets purchased online require the Visitor to produce the ticket confirmation email on arrival at the Zoo. The email confirmation will be emailed to the email address nominated by the Visitor at time of purchase upon successful completion of the transaction. Visitors are admitted to the Zoo subject to the terms and conditions of entry which are displayed at the Zoo’s main entrance, a copy of which is available on request.

Admission tickets are non-transferable, non-exchangeable, non-refundable and void if altered. They are not valid for special events that require a separate admission charge. All persons entering the zoo must have a valid entrance ticket which must be retained during your visit. As the tickets are non-transferable, accordingly they may not be sold or passed to any third party.

Tickets

  1. 1.1 One Ticket purchased entitles one person entry to the Zoo on a single occasion.
  2. 1.2 All persons entering the Zoo must hold a valid Ticket that must be retained at all times and submitted for inspection if required by any member of staff. Failure to produce a valid Ticket on request may result in removal from the Zoo.
  3. 1.3 Group Tickets for parties of 15 or more may be available at discounted rates (“Group Tickets”).

  1. 1.4 Where Ticket prices vary according to age, the following provisions apply:
  2. 1.4.1 A person of 15 years or older is classed as an adult;
  3. 1.4.2 A person aged 4 to 14 years is classed as a child; and
  4. 1.4.3 For children aged 3 years and under, no admission fee will be charged.

1.5 Concession Tickets apply to the following groups:

  1. 1.5.1 Students, upon production of a valid Student ID
  2. 1.5.2 Seniors upon presentation of ID to verify their age as over 65
  3. 1.5.3 For caregivers of disabled visitors, no admission fee will be charged.
  4. 1.6 The price of Tickets may vary from time to time and the prices advertised are not guaranteed.
  5. 1.7 Once acquired, whether by purchase or on a complimentary basis, Tickets are non-refundable, non-transferable and void if altered and Tickets that the Zoo reasonably suspects have been transferred or altered will not be honoured. If lost, Tickets will not be replaced.
  6. 1.8 From time to time, the Zoo may issue Tickets under special promotions (“Promotional Tickets”) but Promotional Tickets will be available subject to availability and subject to any terms and conditions affecting the particular promotion.
  7. 1.9 Should a refund/amendment be provided at the Manager’s discretion, an administration fee of $10 NZD will be applied.From 

From 1st August, we have reintroduced Book in advance Tickets purchased via the website should be produced by the Visitor on arrival for inspection and will be scanned to check validity.

  • A book-in-advance ticket is valid for the date of booking only
  • A book-in-advance ticket can be rescheduled using the visitors' email confirmation link.
  • If you're rescheduling a ticket booked for an off-peak day (weekday school terms) to a same-day ticket and/or peak day (weekends, public and school holidays), this will incur a charge for the price difference of the ticket. To avoid paying additional cost, you can reschedule your ticket to a same value day in advance!
  • There is a $2 administration fee to upgrade your ticket/s with a staff member. Only one fee is charged per group. The administration fee is only charged once for your whole group, not for each ticket in your group. 
  • Book in advance tickets may not be used in conjunction with any voucher, promotion or special offer.

The following terms and conditions, together with our Deliveries and Returns Policy and our Privacy Policy (Terms) govern your use of Auckland Zoo online ticketing (Website). By visiting our Website and/or placing an online order with us, you engage in our service (Service) and you agree to, and are bound by, these Terms.

Throughout these Terms, the terms ‘’we’’, “us” and “our” refer to Tātaki Auckland Unlimited, as trustee for Tātaki Auckland Unlimited, trading under the name of Auckland Zoo.

ONLINE TERMS

  1. By agreeing to these Terms, you represent that you are at least 18 years of age and you have given us your consent to allow any of your minor dependents to use the Website.
  2. You may not use our Website or products for any illegal or unauthorised purpose.
  3. You must not transmit any worms or viruses or any code of a destructive nature.
  4. A breach or violation of any of the Terms will result in an immediate termination of your Services.

GENERAL CONDITIONS

TAXES, CUSTOMS AND DUTIES:

  1. All prices listed on the Website are inclusive of New Zealand GST (Goods and Services Tax) for New Zealand customers only.

PRODUCT AVAILABILITY:

  1. The Website shares its stock inventory with the physical Auckland Zoo ticketing office located in Auckland, New Zealand. As a result, all products are subject to availability. If items from our physical ticket office are purchased and sold at the same time that an order for an item online is processed, then the online item will unfortunately not be available. In such instances, we will notify you as soon as possible via email and do our best to fulfil the order, cancel the order, or offer a similar or alternative product.
  2. We reserve the right, but are not obligated, to limit the sales of our products to any person, geographic region or jurisdiction. We may exercise this right on a case-by-case basis. We reserve the right to limit the quantities of any products or services that we offer. We reserve the right to discontinue any product at any time.

CONTENT ACCURACY:

  1. At Auckland Zoo, we endeavour to provide you with accurate descriptions and specifications of all our products. All descriptions and specifications are correct at the time of publication, and have been written to the best of our ability. However, we cannot guarantee that all descriptions, specifications and content are entirely accurate or error-free. Prices listed on our Website are current at time of display and are subject to change without notice.

ACCURACY OF BILLING AND ACCOUNT INFORMATION

  1. We reserve the right to refuse any order you place with us. We may, in our sole discretion, limit or cancel quantities purchased per person, per household or per order. These restrictions may include orders placed by or under the same customer account, the same credit card, and/or orders that use the same billing and/or shipping address. In the event that we make a change to or cancel an order, we may attempt to notify you by contacting the e-mail and/or billing address/phone number provided at the time the order was made. SECURITY

  1. Auckland Zoo uses Rezdy for its Online Ticketing system. All transactions are secured by 256 bit SSL encryption. SSL technology encodes information as it is being sent over the Internet, helping to ensure that the information transmitted remains confidential.
  2. Ticketure’s servers are deployed to Amazon Web Services (AWS), which is a PCI DSS Level 1 compliant provider and provides a certified infrastructure for storing, processing, and transmitting credit card information.

DISCLAIMER OF WARRANTIES; LIMITATION OF LIABILITY

  1. We do not guarantee, represent or warrant that your use of the Service will be uninterrupted, timely, secure or error-free.
  2. We do not warrant that the results that may be obtained from the use of the Service will be accurate or reliable.
  3. You agree that from time to time we may remove the Service for indefinite periods of time or cancel the Service at any time, without notice to you.
  4. You expressly agree that your use of, or inability to use, the Service is at your sole risk. CONSUMER GUARANTEES ACT 1993

  1. If the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 applies to your use of the Service and purchase of products through the Website, nothing in these Terms is intended to limit your rights under that Act.

If in our sole judgement you fail, or we suspect that you have failed, to comply with any term or provision of these Terms, we also may terminate this agreement at any time without notice and you will remain liable for all amounts due up to and including the date of termination; and/or accordingly may deny you access to our Services (or any part thereof).

ENTIRE AGREEMENT

  1. The failure of us to exercise or enforce any right or provision of these Terms shall not constitute a waiver of such right or provision.
  2. These Terms and any policies or operating rules posted by us on this Website or in respect of the Service constitutes the entire agreement and understanding between you and us and govern your use of the Service, superseding any prior or contemporaneous agreements, communications and proposals, whether oral or written, between you and us (including, but not limited to, any prior versions of the Terms).

These Terms and any separate agreements whereby we provide you Services shall be governed by and construed in accordance with New Zealand law.

Disclaimer: Members can visit seven days a week for 364 days a year except in special circumstances where bookings are enforced (at no extra charge to the member).

  1. Membership privileges are available only on presentation of a current membership pass.
  2. Only those named and photographed on the membership pass can use their membership to gain free Auckland Zoo entry and discounts at Auckland Zoo and other approved places. A guest adult pass can also receive discounts.
  3. Your membership pass is non-refundable and non-transferable (except for the guest adult pass).
  4. Your membership cannot be used in conjunction with Auckland Zoo Education (Discovery and Learning Centre) visits.
  5. Annual passes are not valid for admission after 4.30pm in summer and 3:30pm during winter hours or for evening events/private functions unless specified.
  6. Other than free admission, membership benefits are subject to periodic review and adjustment at the discretion of Auckland Zoo.
  7. Adults 15+ years, Senior 65+ years, Student (Valid tertiary or secondary I.D required), Child 4-14 years, Cub 0-3 years.
  8. The renewal discount of 25% off the membership full price is only available within 6 months of the membership’s expiry.
  9. Reprint fee for lost/broken cards is $5 and replacement lanyards cost $4.

Guest adult and support person passes

  1. Only one guest adult pass per membership.
  2. A guest adult pass must visit the zoo with a named person on the membership to gain entry.
  3. The guest adult pass needs to be returned to the zoo when renewing memberships that no longer contain a guest adult pass.
  4. For members who require assistance to visit the zoo, a free support person pass is given at staff discretion.
  5. The support pass can only gain entry when visiting with the named cardholder who is being supported.

Additional Benefits

Auckland Zoo

  1. The discount on Zoo entry for friends and family applies to adult and child admission prices only and is redeemed by presenting your pass at ticketing.
  2. Discount to the Zoo shop on selected products (some exclusions apply).
  3. A 25% discount will be applied for any member that wishes to renew their membership for another year up to 6 months after their membership has lapsed.

  1. 20% discounts to Kelly Tarlton’s applies to child or adult admission only.
  2. 20% discounts to MOTAT’s applies to child or adult admission only.
  3. Discounts to Stardome Observatory based on their events.

Auckland Zoo Terms and Conditions of entry

  1. All standard Auckland Zoo Terms and Conditions of entry apply to members. 
  2. Staff has the right to refuse entry to a member if they are in violation of any of the Auckland Zoo terms and conditions of entry.

The “Digital Gift Day Pass” is an Auckland Zoo General Admission product; therefore, it is subject to all normal Terms and Conditions of entry. 

In accordance with government COVID Alert Levels and/or any future other mass gathering advise and law – Auckland Zoo will implement a booking system to manage numbers of mass gathering. ALL visitors/members must adhere to general terms and conditions of entry under the booking system.A Digital Day Pass is not transferable or exchangeable and cannot be redeemed for cash by the recipient of the gift pass. If required, a refund may be offered to the individual who purchased the gift originally and a digital receipt must be presented to get a refund.

A Digital Gift Day Pass is only valid for the number of people in the day pass ticket type, e.g. Family Pass is valid for two adults (15 years and older) and 2 children (4 – 14 years old). Any additional guest[s] must purchase a general admission ticket onsite or online

A Digital Gift Day Pass is not valid for and upgrade to an Annual Pass Membership discount.

Annual Pass Members discount on Digital Gift Day Pass is not available.

A Digital Gift Day Pass is valid for 12 months from the date of purchase. If there is a lockdown, an extension of the Digital Gift Day Pass may be offered.

Auckland Zoo reserves the right to remove the Digital Gift Day Pass product at any given time. All Digital Gift Day Passes that have been purchased are valid and will be honored in accordance with all other terms and conditions.

Services

  1. Auckland Zoo has a suite of online learning courses relating to wildlife conservation and connected subjects. The course descriptions are intended as indicators of the general nature of the course and do not guarantee content. From time to time, Auckland Zoo may amend the course and/or alter details at its discretion.
  2. Courses may be withdrawn if no expiry date has been set, subject to thirty days prior notice.
     

Pricing, payments, cancellations and refunds

  1. We occasionally run promotions and sales for our content, during which certain content is available at discounted prices for a set period of time. The price applicable to the content will be the price at the time you complete your purchase of the content (at checkout).
  2. You agree to pay the fees for content that you purchase, and you authorise us to charge your debit or credit card for those fees. Auckland Zoo works with payment service providers to offer you the most convenient payment methods and to keep your payment information secure.
  3. When you make a purchase, you agree not to use an invalid or unauthorised payment method. If your payment method fails and you still get access to the content you are enrolling in, you agree to pay us the corresponding fees within 30 days of notification from us. We reserve the right to disable access to any content for which we have not received adequate payment.
  4. Extensions and refunds are at the discretion of Auckland Zoo and please email conservationlearning@aucklandzoo.co.nz to discuss your request within 30 days of your purchase of the content. No refund is due to you if you request it after the 30-day time limit has passed. Auckland Zoo also reserves the right to refund learners beyond the 30-day limit in cases of suspected or confirmed account fraud.
  5. At our discretion, if we believe you are abusing our refund terms and conditions, such as if you have consumed a significant portion of the content that you want to refund or if you have previously refunded the content, we reserve the right to deny your refund and/or restrict you from other future refunds.
  6. If Auckland Zoo is required to disable the content you previously purchased for legal or policy reasons, you are entitled to a refund beyond this 30-day limit. In this instance, notice will be given in writing via email.

Auckland Zoo’s rights

  1. All right, title, and interest in and to Auckland Zoo’s platform and services, including but not limited to our website, our existing or future applications, databases, logos, source code, and the content our employees, volunteers and partners provide through our Services (but excluding content provided by learners) are and will remain the exclusive property of Auckland Zoo.
  2. Our platforms and services are protected by copyright, trademark, and other laws of Aotearoa, New Zealand.

You may not do any of the following while accessing or using Auckland Zoo’s platform and Services:

  1. access, tamper with, or use non-public areas of the platform (including content storage), Auckland Zoo’s computer systems, or the technical delivery systems of Auckland Zoo’s service providers.
  2. disable, interfere with, or try to circumvent any of the features of the platforms related to security or probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of any of our systems.
  3. copy, modify, create a derivative work of, reverse engineer, reverse assemble, or otherwise attempt to discover any source code of or content on the Auckland Zoo platform or Services.
  4. access or search or attempt to access or search our platform by any means (automated or otherwise) other than through our currently available search functionalities that are provided. You may not scrape, spider, use a robot, or use other automated means of any kind to access the Services.
  5. in any way use the Services to send altered, deceptive, or false source-identifying information (such as sending email communications falsely appearing as Auckland Zoo); or interfere with, or disrupt, (or attempt to do so), the access of any user, host, or network, including, without limitation, sending a virus, overloading, flooding, spamming, or mail-bombing the platforms or services, or in any other manner interfering with or creating an undue burden on the Services.

Accounts

  1. You need an account for most activities on our platform.
  2. You must have reached the age of consent for online services in your country to create an account on the platform.
  3. If you are younger than the age of consent, you may not set up an account, but we encourage you to invite a parent or guardian to open an account and help you access content that is appropriate for you under supervision.
  4. You agree to provide accurate and complete information during the signup process.
  5. Our platform is committed to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment for all users. You agree to engage in respectful and constructive interactions with facilitators and other learners at all times. Hate speech, harassment, discrimination or any form of disrespectful behaviour towards others will not be tolerated.   9. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activities that occur under your account.
  10. You may not share your account login credentials with anyone else. Keep your password somewhere safe because you’re responsible for all activity associated with your account.
  11. If you suspect someone else is using your account, you agree to let us know immediately by contacting conservationlearning@aucklandzoo.co.nz and inform us of any unauthorised use of your account or any other security breach on the platform. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account if we suspect unauthorised activity.

  1. All courses are facilitated through Auckland Zoo’s online learning platform. It is your responsibility to ensure you have appropriate hardware and internet access to enable participation in the course.
