A sweet treat for the tortoises.
Did you know that Galapagos tortoises have a sweet tooth? Which is odd, considering they don’t have teeth.
Auckland Zoo opened it's doors to the Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland community on Saturday 16 December 1922. Since then, we have evolved to become an active conservation organisation and have welcomed over 28 million visitors to connect with nature, community and wildlife.
At no time in our 100-year history has the role, relevance, and purpose of Auckland Zoo for people and for wildlife been more important than it is right now. With the help of our visitors, we have raised over $5 million for conservation organisations through our Conservation Fund, plus our expert staff spend thousands and thousands of hours doing conservation fieldwork across the motu and overseas.

Did you know that feeding lions large pieces of meat is critical for behavioural enrichment, not just a tasty banquet?
Did you know that rhinos need sunscreen and moisturiser, but unlike ours coming in creams theirs comes in mud!
Did you know that kea are as smart as toddlers? And just like toddlers, they need things to stimulate their active brains.
Did you know that the fruit in New Zealand have different sugar compositions than what spider monkeys would find in the wild?
